About our Talavera Tiles
Talavera tiles are a white, glazed tile that is created using the majolica technique. The beautiful and colorful Talavera ceramics from Puebla, Mexico provide the inspiration for our hand painted Talavera tile line. Our tiles portray the traditional Talavera design but add a modern twist by using contemporary colors. They are a wonderful way to incorporate the look of Mexican Talavera into a room.
History The style and process of painting these ceramics was introduced to Mexico by Spanish artisans during the Colonial Era beginning the mid-1500's. The town of Puebla quickly became the main source for Talavera ceramics partly due to its abundance of quality clay around the area. Standards for creating this beautiful pottery were put into place so the quality of the product was uniform and of distinct excellence. To this day, an authentic Talavera piece must be signed at the base stating that it is from Puebla and it will also have the name of the workshop that produced it.
Avente offers a collection of tiles inspired by Talavera tile designs. View our entire collection of Talavera Tile!
