An Eye-Catching Cuban Cement Tile Kitchen Backsplash

An Eye-Catching Cuban Cement Tile Kitchen Backsplash

Avente Tile customer, Kelly von Stroh, of Durango, CO, shows how she used Cuban cement tiles to create a kitchen backsplash that not only creates a focal point for the room, but also seamlessly blends in with its surroundings of dark wood cabinetry and brings out the gray tones of the slate flooring. Kelly says not only does she love the Cuban cement tile installation, but so does everyone else that sees this kitchen backsplash.

To help her decide on what kind of backsplash she wanted, Kelly looked for different installations that she loved. She liked an installation she had seen on houzz.com. For this project, Avente Tile's Cuban Heritage Design 110 2B was chosen by Buckminster Green, the contractor, for an eclectic kitchen backsplash on their 5th Street Project. Kelly liked the concept, but wanted something in a different color and with a less modern look and feel. She ordered three samples: Design 140 1A, Design 250 2B and Design 140 3B. In about six weeks, she placed her order and decided on Design 140 3B.

The Cuban Heritage Cement Tile designs originate from patterns re-discovered and salvaged from old homes and crumbling estates in Havana. Cuban Cement Tile designs are different from other cement tiles and are characterized by their use of elaborate patterns, bold colors and prominent borders, very often double borders.

Cuban Heritage Design 140 comes in four standard colorways:

Cuban Tile Pattern 140-1A

Design 140 1A
8" x 8"

Cuban Tile Pattern 140-2B
Design 140 2B
8" x 8"

Cuban Tile Pattern CH140-3B
Design 140 3B
8" x 8"

Cuban Tile Pattern Design 140-4A
Design 140 4A
8" x 8"

You can also customize the colors in these patterns using the extensive palette available with Cuban Heritage Colors or, you can create your own custom color.

Cement Tile Buying Tip

The cost of freight for small cement tile orders can be as much as the tile. This is common for small projects when using cement tiles for a fireplace, backsplash or small bathroom where residential delivery is required. The cost of freight increases even more when you aren't near a large city or major shipping lane. In the installation shown here, the freight costs were 45% of the total order cost. Also, we do not require you to order a minimum amount of cement tile. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us, or search our FAQs to get the answer you need.
