About Hand Painted Field Tile
pacifica field tile Field tile is a tile found in the main "field" or area of the installation covering the wall, floor or countertop. It is usually in a solid color and can be paired with decorative tile or other field tile. "Field tile" and "solid color tiles" are terms that are used interchangeably.

How they are made
Our Hand Painted Field Tile is hand painted on ceramic tile bisque. They can be painted with color in one of two ways: By brushing on a color or by applying several different colors of glazes to create a fully colored tile. Because of these techniques, hand painted field tiles do not have a solid color value like many manufactured tiles. The brushed technique creates a finished hand painted field tile where the brush strokes are visible. When a variety of different colored glazes are used to create a solid color, each finished hand painted field tile will be unique, but the colors on the tiles will all blend together creating a cohesive look.

Choosing the Right Tile
The hand painted field tile you choose for your project will set the tone for the overall look, so it is important to choose carefully. For a bold, dramatic look, choose a brightly colored field tile to complement the decorative tiles you have chosen. If you want the deco tiles to take the limelight, go with a neutral or more muted field tile and let the patterned tiles truly shine.

For something different, consider placing the field tiles on point, making a diamond-like pattern. Also, staggering the rows of tiles can add a unique touch.

You can also offset hand painted field tile with grout. If you want the colors in your tile to stand out, use a white or light colored grout. A light grout will also hide any minor imperfections made during installation of a light colored tile. To draw attention to the pattern of your layout, use a grout that contrasts with the lightness, or darkness of your tile. Always test your grout in a small area to ensure it is the look you desire.
